Many that have had the pleasure of meeting me, know about my fascination with the fae. As a child, I grew up on the tales of Thumbelina and the numerous faery characters shown in Disney’s films. I assumed that they were guardians of children, protectors of the light and were the ones who aided in the changing of the seasons in nature. When I became older, my illusion of all fae being good became shattered, my knowledge revealed that like everything in nature the fae had both a light court known as the Seelie court and a dark court known as the Unseelie court.
The Seelie Court The Seelie or light fae are those many consider being good and kind towards humans. They leave gifts for those blessed by the fae and play harmless pranks on those who seek them out. When a mortal shows disrespect or angers them, they use harmless pranks to teach them a lesion. Being Drawn in bright and royal colors shown with having light-colored wings. They appear aiding in the change of the seasons and interacting with nature.
A Fey’s Gift
Musical laughter rings through the forest, Mother Nature’s children playing a game of tag. Wings of light dazzling in the canopy, creating illusions in the mortal’s mind. Granting gifts to the blessed and bestowing lessons for those who have gone astray.
The Unseelie Court
Many know of the dark fae or the Unseelie from the nightmares created by parents’ stories before bedtime. Unlike their light counterparts, they hold no love for humans. They see mortals as nothing more than slaves and pets. They hide in the shadows of night waiting for a mortal to stumble across their woods. Their tricks are more twisted with intents on harming or killing the mortals creating fun curses for those unlucky to gain their wraith.
Tricks of the Fae
The mortals play under the protection of the bright golden sun. Never sensing the danger lurking in the woods. Watching from the shadows waiting for fools to enter our domain. another victim that won’t be missed by the masses.
I decided to write two poems to show the contracts between the two courts of the fae. The Seelie or light fae are known for being kind towards humans, while the Unseelie or dark fae see them as nothing but toys. Regardless of the fae’s alignment they are given respect due to their magic and connection to nature.
Many consider the fae to be tricksters and for someone blessed by the fae, I see their actions as a rare form of enjoyment. They are always looking forward to sensing their magic on the winter and summer solstice.
Now, shush, I’m trying to read. Luna
